FAQ's
How should I prepare for my acupuncture treatment?
- Everyone should eat a small meal or snack prior to your appointment.
- Men wear shorts.
- Women wear workout gear prefer sports bra and shorts.
- Keep in mind I need to be able to get to the area that needs to be treated. (Meaning super tight skinny clothing of any kind does not work!)
Do the needles hurt?
If anything feels uncomfortable it is usually for a couple seconds and usually most patients can tolerate without a problem. My youngest patient was 2 weeks old and oldest patient 99 years old. In over 10 years of performing acupuncture I have only had a couple patients that could not tolerate needles and if that is the case I do have other tools to get you out of pain. However, 99% of the time we can proceed with needles. For the acupuncture that I do needles are put in place around 20-30 seconds and then removed once the trigger point or motor point is stimulated and the needles are not left in place most of the time. Around 10-15 needles are used for most patients. It is not like they show on TV where you look like a porcupine the exception to that is for professional athletes that I treat!
How many treatments do I need?
It is extremely important to remember that acupuncture has a cumulative effect just like exercise. It takes time to get in shape. The number of treatments varies from person to person. Important factors include the duration and severity of your health conditions as well as consistency of treatments. Two to three treatments may be sufficient to treat an acute condition (tweaked your back), yet a series of 8-15 treatments may be necessary to resolve a chronic condition. Normally I will see you once a week for 4 weeks then we will re-evaluate where we are at and where you want to be.
What will I feel after treatment?
The majority of patients feel very relaxed afterward, however this can vary from patient to patient. I do not give most patients restrictions after there treatment. However, please do not overdue and give your body time to heal after a session. Meaning I prefer when we first start that you do not see me and then go immediately afterwards to work out or do yoga. The next day feel free to workout or prior to the appointment. Also prefer that you not do a massage or see a chiropractor on the same day as an appointment with me as it can be too much information for the body to handle at one time.
Do you accept insurance?
By not accepting insurance it gives me freedom in your treatment options. I can offer a wider range of treatment options without being constrained by what insurance companies deem necessary or reimbursable. This allows me to tailor treatments specifically to your needs rather than adhering to standardized protocols dictated by insurers.
Is there a missed/cancellation policy?
To ensure that we can accommodate all our patients, we have implemented a 24-hour cancellation policy. You will be charged $95 for less than 24 hours notice. We will charge this fee to your credit card on file. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us to serve all of our patients effectively.
